Re: New Tweeter for kef concertos
Hi Rob
I used a Seas 27FFC Tweeter they go from 2 KhZ to 30KHZ in my upgrade and I have found them to be excellant, they should satisfy your high frequency craveing. I had to use a 4.7 Ohm in series with the Tweeter to match it up to the Bass/mid, unfortunately I cant hear above 12.5 KHZ but they sounded very good to me you can get them for around £30 a pop, any how I would be intested what you decide to buy lets us know. I haven,t heard the fostex ribbon ones as any one else heard the sound of these. Regards Acorn |

Re: New Tweeter for kef concertos
Acorn (mighty oaks growing?) are your SEAS tweeters equivalents on paper but actually improvements on T27s?
I have had more than few T27s over the yearrs and only have one pair leftin home made Falcon Xovererd LS35as. Every so often I give these speakers such a bashing that it has corssed my mind what happens when the tweets blow (or the B110s) - what do I replace them with ??? As they are bolted to the wall they have become fixtures so rather than chuck 'em out, when that dreadful thing happens, you'd recommend SEAS FFC27? |

Re: New Tweeter for kef concertos
Well LS35as are truly wonderful when they are used as intended ('umble opinion). They are near field monitors with a built in artificial bass boost at 120Hz. In the near field I love them. As HiFi well many think they are thedogsbollocks. Okay, much as I like dogs, their testicles don't appeal quite so much. Then peeps came along and invented special add on passive bass units; clever they were to as they used TL on B110s only. But didn't this make the original concept more like all those Kef thingies names of which I forget but I liked and couldn't afford in the 70s. (ooops Concertos, I remember, but there were others too)
I have them because I still have them and they continue to work. Every so often I like a blast, a change and if I can't be bothered to go to another room, these do fine in my er, 'office' but only for the occasional change becasue although they have much merit, they don't compare well at all with many (again 'umble opinion) Most of my ribbon tweeter friends rail against 'silk dome sh@t' but I can't help feeling there is a little personal insecurity going on there. I save my own personal insecurity for other situations and get back to listening. |

Andrew
I think you have hit the nail on the tweeter there. The t27 does sound good if you are close to them -ie in a near field monitor. But I sit some 14feet from them I have contacted Falcon and am awaiting a reply Rob |
