This would make a great WADfest comparison.

Two identical amps*, silver versus copper transformer tests.

* one amp and a soldering iron!

Just use clip leads, no need for the iron. Very much the sort of thing that seem to happen when I get together with Paul :-)

Cool Re: Ultimate upgrade, silver output transformer option

Andrew,
cuidardo por las chicas hombre, con Anna la situacion es muy peligroso - saves?

And now down to Txs. What is the site for these trannies Andrew. If C cores are so good, could it be possible for Peter to offer these with the kits as they seem to be so reasonable in price. reason is, as everyone now knows, they are so important to the end sound of any amp.

I have a set of AE C-Core for 211's that were good, but not great (this is by Pauls TX standard, so they were ok for the rest of us, they were what the 211 was using for the Eggfests.

I am now using a pair of AE's amorphous core 211 TX's which IMH are much betterer again. I couldn't talk myself into the silver amorph 211 TX's, Andrews were enough just for 2a3's. Having said that their prices for silver amporph are more than reasnable compaired to most other winders.

I don't think they are the ultra top quality, but for the price more than near enough. For that, you may need to wait 18 months for Tribute, or maybe O-Netic or Dave Sagle, but I have little first had experence in that, though others have.

Hi Andrew

Re AI C - Core transformers is that £130 a pair or each and is that Push - Pull or single ended and how long do they take to complete a order. If I remember correctly, AE took quite a while with your silver transformers. It would be nice if some one would stock them in the UK.

Regards Acorn

My original 211 C-Core TX's cost just over £200 for the pair, the amorphous were more expensive. Normally they quote about 6 week to deliver from order, its sometimes a week after that but not much. I think most if there TX's are wound to order. I think their interstages are off the shelf though.

They are easy to deal with, though emails are not read that often so don't be supprised if they are answered a few days later, they speak English fine, so phone if you have any questions, they accept paypal with the normal surcharge, and have a increasing list of other valve bits on their site.

I know it sounds like I am on a commision (wish I was), but I have had quite a few TX's from them and can't complain about what they make. I get the impression that the winder prefers SE amps to PP, but I am sure they will wind what you need.

I'm back now, not ignoring your question Acorn. NickG has the answer though.

I've only used C Core and silver amorphous SE. The silvers took a couple of months, not long as Paul amongst others can relate about other winders.

The c cores were in stock so ... how long does air mail take!

Very friendly and helpful folk. You can't go wrong.
