Re: valve dampers
I dont know andrew, ive heard mixed reports. Some people say they improve the sound, others say it makes no odds.
I have no views as ive not tried, apart from seeing colin use them to stop the microphonics as i said earlier. I just posted the link in case it helped anyone who does believe. |

Re: valve dampers
I've got two pearl dampener's that fit ecf80's if any one want's to try a forum review of them ,they fit in an envelope so easy to send. They retail at around a tenner each so i recon that their as good an example of this type of wiget as any.Highly recommended indeed if you believe their hype.

Re: valve dampers
I'd quite like to give them a try. Im open minded on the subject. I know they can help if the valve is microphonic, but have no leanings on my views about the effect to sound quality.

Re: valve dampers
Are they dampers or Perl coolers? I guess they have two different purposes.

Re: valve dampers
Ok, you can see the Perl coolers here http://www.partsconnexion.com/catalog/accessories.html
click on the bottom link. I use these on my phono, to try and keep the temperature down, and hopefully decrease noise. They certainly run cooler than otherwise.

Re: valve dampers
Cheers Nick, all.
I see that the perl coolers are only $13 so a pair costs £15 or so. They also have a greater surface area in contact with the glass, so should help damp the tube even more. I was interested in the O rings tho as these seem to be much cheaper. Will they make a difference tho? I await a forum review......
