Hi Dave - I have to say the aesthetics of your switcher front panel are right up there with my own artistic talents (i.e. non existent!) Why does the space always run out before the end of a word ?????

Having been so rude I'll try to redress the balance by pointing out that your workmanship where it matters i.e. inside is bloody superb! I take some pride in doing a neat job on wiring and soldering but you have me well beaten sir!

cheers
Dave

Errr...ta Dave!

The switcher is only for Julie and myself to use so who give's a monkey's what it looks like It's inside a 'Hifi' cabinet so isn't on show. What it does is exactly what I wanted, IE switch between sources, be 'clunk'/noise free and power up my SE Valve amp projects safely without electrocuting my partner.

So there

I hope you realised (sure you did) that my derogatory comments on your marker pen artwork were firmly tongue in cheek, they really did remind me instantly of my own efforts!

Yes you're right of course - the artwork has no negative impact on functionality of the device, it just amuses me that usually DIY enthusiasts fall into one of 2 categories (a) those who are comfortable with the "technical" parts of the job (in our case the electronics) but how shall I put it "sub optimally skilled in aesthetics" (and I definitely count myself in this group) and (b) those who do wonderful stuff with casework but are a little less fussy about wiring etc.

If you want to see my point illustrated take a look at some of the chip amp forums!

Cheers
Dave

Oh don't get me wrong..... It sounds rubbish too.... just kidding.

It's pretty good actually, yes I'm lucky in that seeing as the stuff is kept in a cabinet with a door on I can get away with breadboard amps and live mains and HT in a domestic HiFi setting.

All my stuff is 'minging' <English youth-speak for a bit ugly...>

Hi DTB,

I know I'm going to kick myself when you tell me but I can't for the life of me recognise your turntable (nice plinth btw) - could you put me out of my misery (by telling me) please?

Cheers
Dave

It's a very rare 'Bitsa' Bit's-a'-this-n-that.

DIY plinth made of 2 different sorts of ply and 3 layers of Trespa, the TT is an old Goldring Lenco GL75 Idler driven from 1971 (I think can't remember) but the arm is a Decca u/p with a mass-loaded headshell sporting a DL103.

GL75's are incredibly rare..... I've got 2 spare, you can have one for £78,899,765.03. <does pesky giggle> I've tweaked mine, it's got Joels bearing mod kit and a damped lubed up 5 hole idler.

Anorak? Moi? Nah.

HTH.
