Andy,

I use Neutrik NTL1 transformers for one balanced input and Sowter 4600 for the other. Both work fine but I marginally prefer the Sowter. These feed the guts of a Pre3. The Neutriks are on a board piggy backed on the input relay board with short wire connectins to the relevant relays. The Sowters are wired directly from the XLRs and onto the relay board.

The Neutriks don't like DC or heat (I ruined a pair by keeping the iron on the pins too long I think). I suspect the Sowters may also object to DC but the wires help for keeping heat well away.
