Re: balls
Right, i gave them a call.
19mm ptfe are £2.45 each 5mm ruby are £4.05 each 5mm ceramic are £6.90 each 3/16th (4.762mm) ruby are £3.60 each 3/16th (4.762mm) ceramic are £1.80 each Minimum order is £25 Lenco main bearings are 5mm, do you think a drop in size to 3/16 would matter? It doesnt make much difference in price with ruby balls, but the ceramics are alot cheaper. I'd be after a ruby ball or two, same with ceramic and might give the ptfe a try in the issolation feet idea. Do you think the 'feet' mentioned earlier would be of benefit to cd players too? Pre65, i'd be interested in some of your 3/4 steel balls to use in isolation feet so i could compare with the ptfe. Do people feel they can make up an order, or is bulk buying in order? £25 minimum is better than i thought. I was assuming there would be a minimum of say 50 of each type or something like that, a minimum price is much easier to deal with. Oops, i didnt ask if that was excluding VAT, probably is, thats how most businesses work isnt it? |

Re: balls
I would be interested in a couple each of the 5mm Ruby and Ceramic to try in the Lenco if you are thinking of an order.

Re: balls
Graeme and Phil ,
Would certainly like to fund three ( or perhaps four to have a spare ) of the 19mm PTFE balls and three of Phil's spare steel 19mm ones too if poss , for my Maple 401 project which is still waiting for the proper isolation bits . I will be at Eggfest 4 all being well . Mark |

Re: balls
Ok, once ive decided what i want ill see if anyone else wants to add anything. I might end up spending over £25 anyway, but i can add other peoples items to my order if they dont want enough to make up a minimum order.
Nick, and anyone else modding lenco bearings, what are you using as thrust plates? I want to get rid of the plastic disc, but the metal disc underneath isnt that wear resistant. What else can i use? Ive been thinking of cutting up a feeler guage as there pretty tough, but any other ideas? What about the magnets people are using in the schroeder arms? They come in all sizes and are very hard. Would the magnetism matter? Where can i get a ceramic disc, or titanium or anything else thats very hard? |

Re: balls
I am using the metal disk that came as part of the ebay lenco bearing kit. I am not using the oild that was part of that, I still prefer the result with teflon grease.
A feeler gauge seems like an interesting idea though.

Re: balls
i guess any hard, flat disc is good.
I saw those kits, what is the disc made from? If its steel, is it hardened? Thats a point, i could harden my own, as long as i can remember the tempering colours. |

Re: balls
Hi Graeme,
I previously ran a joint order for the 19mm steel balls. It's worth doing if you don't mind managing the postage hassle etc. A nice way to contribute though. Although 3/16th inch balls are close to 5mm, I'd not be inclined to go there. I've said that however in ignorance because I don't have a working knowledge of my Lenco. I bought it and stored for prosterity and future fun. I'm concentrating on 401 at present. I'd certainly be interested in 3 x 19mm PTFE and would also be up for 2 x 5mm ruby and/or ceramic if you go ahead with the joint order. Best wishes, Greg |
