Colin, looking at my spare zeners they read 1N 5388B, these are 200v.

IN 5378B is the 100v diode according to the RS site. BOB

BOB. Yes that would explain the 106v out i was sold this as a 200v so i have only two of them can i use them in series to get the 200v out

Not shure on that Colin, I know if you put two Zeners back to back it acts as a clipper diode (AC). If you want I can post you one of mine. BOB

Hi Colin et al,
Yes you can stack zeners of any voltage to provide the voltage required.
If you allow 10mA for zener current plus whatever current and voltage you wish to drop and do the usual Ohms law calcs.

On its way Colin, I have put in .1uF cap to bypass the zener. BOB

Hi all
Well ordered a new DMM just another cheap one for the time being I think it’s got overload protection but not sure if this means for setting the wrong range or not
I have always avoided a really good DMM for use on valve stuff maybe am auto ranger is with i should go for
