I like uni-pivots and use Grace G940s.
For that money there is the SME 309 to consider.
Also Fidelity Research FR-64fx....fantastic arm.

Regards

I once had a hadcock..the early one.. more accidents than enough with it...sounded ok..

I have just got my deck running again after 5 years of storage.
The fidelity research is a very good arm, i have the silver wired version..
sounds good ...even with the ear phono stage..
very sweet, detailed.. nice

i was going to put the arm onto a 301 but not too sure now
it is ok as it is at the moment...

i found a big improvement going from a fully modded rb250 to an origin live silver mark 2. then i tryed vic's air bearing arm and this is the one i like best now. makes the OL arm sound mechanical. you get the pump etc with the air arm. vic is happy to demo the arm for people and has been very helpful. don't know how it compares to the other arms mentioned though. richard

Hi,

I can't seem to find any info on Fidelity Research arms. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi Wayne
here's a little bit
http://www.audioinvest.no/fr/fr_tarm.htm,

the ones to go for are the 64 and the 66, the 66 being longer,

they do turn up on ebay fairly often

Some other sites with some information. There is not a great deal out there, but they really are fantastic arms. Only the 64/66 series are really worth considering.
the "S" does not mean silver, but stainless steel. The "fx" is alloy. The 64 & 64s are high mass...30-35g eff. mass, the 64fx medium mass, 20g or so and there was a 12, very rare, which was low mass about 12g. You have to view these arms in the context of the cartridge. the 64 & 64s being ideal for use with SPUs etc. The 64fx with Denon 103s and most modern cartridges, but not the very high compliance ones. As David says the 66's were the same but longer, so the above is the same for them, only the eff. mass increases! :

Thanks for those links gerry.. i've learnt a liitle more about my arm

mines the 64s with a silver wired sticker on the tube

it does sound very nice

the arm came with a kiseki blue silverspot, which i had rebuilt

had it for about 7 years or so..

sounds very nice to me...

although i could say that i could beat it with a DIY job.. a knitting needle a little wood work and a couple of magnets ... maybe..
maybe not...

Steve

If Carlsberg made Transcription Tone Arms, they would probably have been Fidelity Research FR64s!

For what it's worth, I have a zeta and a hadcock on the same 401. They have a very different presentation of the music, and both require some patience to set them up properly. I do not consider the hadcock to be any more fragile than any other piece of precision engineering. I would say that the zeta scores highly on bass, dynamics, and detail, and the hadcock scores highly on rhythm and musciality. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal choice.

Cheers

Steve
