Re: Colin Wonfor
Hi Colin and welcome
Thanks for the intro and we wish you a speedy recovery! I've moved this thread over to the Coffee Bar (or tea if you prefer - it's only virtual I'm afraid ) and hope you'll feel able to chat as and when you feel well enough. It would be good to hear some tales and I wonder if you've had any interest in valves over the years? Cheers, Rich |

I like the huge 250TH made by Eital McCullouch , I used then to power a laser, then I built with the 2 spare ones a SECA tube amp the heater voltage was 5V @ 20Amps just a mind blowing sound. Best Col |

Yes, there is something special about transmitter valves. The 833a I use have 10V @ 10A filaments.

I think it the way the high voltage crackles down ones arm when you get it wrong. Yep 10A I used two. And that wonderful blue arc better than any blue LED as you strike the anode with a grounded screw driver, with the lovely aroma of ozone, better than any coffee smell mmm pure engineering heaven. |

My Granddad taught me valves with mains energized loud speakers, then Dad taught me Transistors , Germanium I still have my first GET1 Dad bought for 10 Shillings , that was lot of money for a man with 7 kids in 1963 ish. Then I became a chemist, electronic was a hobby, until a minor explosion, gave me second thoughts so I did a later degree in Electrical Engineering, and at 50 I did a BA in computer science, but I still suffer from word blindness, so none of these exams helped.(back to the Beano) The best Valve Amp I did had a PL84 a single device with a ECC83 input stage transformer coupled and was about 6W and Mono, with a Garrad deck, I bought from Kelly,s Radio in Romford. I think the cartridge was a ceramic type. Granddad showed me how to wind my own transformers, I still do today. Most of my electronic design life has been in power stuff and audio was for fun, but is soon took over, thank god. And you how did you get into this mess. |

Re: Colin Wonfor
Hi Colin W
That’s interesting when you say you suffer from word blindness as that make two of us Dyslexia is a right pain when it come to trying to explain something on here at times I can find it very difficult some time but I think the main backbone of the members on here are aware of my problem and do their best to help thumbs up for that chaps But the advantages of having Dyslexia is I have a very good ability to remember what someone may have said 20/30 plus years ago

I have managed to write a few thing for Wireless World and a few very long papers on noise and a few patents, what a nightmare. If I want to do it quickly is all goes ****. I also leave words out, of sentences and "s" of words, thank goodness for spell checkers. |
