Yes agreed about the difference using the 6500s.

Cryogenic hmm, surprised myself buying into that tosh! Joking aside, I got them off eBay as part used for £30 and the darkness of the brown bases suggests about 500 hours. Checking on the Avo shows they are bang on matched quad really impressive and boxed and stickered as cryo from http://www.cryoset.com/catalog/produ...9p4rq5l35nnpf2

On listening, the existing Svet KT88s are nice, they are well matched and look about half used. A matched new set of 6550C with square hole plates was a bit nicer, smoother mid with sweeter and airier top. The Cryo's were fractionally but noticeably better still but I see they are the round hole plate variety which may make the difference rather than the cryo - who knows - anyway they were a bargain and are in at the moment

Ive got a spare old set of 6550's I wonder if I leave them in the bottom of the freezer for a few months and see if they improve
