Hi Al-the Mullard book "tube circuits for audio amplifiers" gives a very detailed account of the 5-20 amp workings/construction and has details of the tag boards and their layout.

My copy is in very good condition which makes it difficult to scan properly but i will give it a go if you want a copy.

Just PM me your e-mail address.

Philip

ps 5-20 has valve rectifier
4-20 has SS rectifier

Phil.

I don't want you to ruin the book. I'll have a look on the net first. I found some 4-20 circuits ages ago but they were all different and none exactly like mine.
If your book has a tag layout that would be good, and save a lot of time.

Cheers.

I quite fancy hardwiring my Maplin amp one of these days. I think the original output TXs were the weakest link here, do we know of anyone who's bothered to fit something better?

Hi Al, Philip,

Here's the original 5881 supplement article which covers layout saved as pdf.

I had a pair of Matamp 5-20 monoblocs which used larger (than standard Maplin) opts from Danbury. Superb sound.

I think the psu was a limiting factor also with more power available using 2 psus for the Maplins. I have the project books if you need any info.

Rich

Thanks Richard.

I'm thinking ahead here. A nice little project for the winter perhaps.
I've done a few alterations to my 4-20, and i've lost track of whats been done.
If i hardwire it, and do the necessary mods to the power supply and iron; i suspect there won't anything left of the original amp.
