Thanks Bob, I'm just about there with this vintage system now, just dragged a Sound Organisation rack out from the loft and will have it up and running in a smaller room soon

Now installed in the other room and sounding great! The room is 19 x 12ft with the speakers firing across the 12ft width with their backs to the wall and the listener sat with their back to the opposite wall. Bass is a little fuller and treble more airy and less direct than in the other room. I've not been tempted to adjust treble at the speakers nor tone controls on the amp, it just sounds great as it is on FM and CD. It's not as "big" sounding as the other system but sweet and highly detailed, a very classy sound, and I totally "get" these smaller speakers in a suitable room

Nice looking system, Richard. The round shape of the speakers is quite pleasant on the eye, maybe even a bit of WAF

blimey! 19 x 12 is a Smaller room?
Our new upstairs lounge will be the biggest room in the house at 12 x 17.5 ft and the back 3 feet of that will have the sloping roof line restricting headroom.
And I'm bunging Quad 989s in.

Yes, bigger than my lounge as well, that's about 10.5 x 14 and has my 12" Tannoys in!
Nice little system Richard, the QUAD gear looks lovely.

You should see Richards main room Andy, you need binoculars to see the far wall and as for the reception area, well it would make a lovely workshop . Bob

Actually Bob I have, when I picked up the transformers for the current EL34 amp and also a very tidy Marantz CD65IISE that No2 Nephew is still enjoying

Yeah I'd love a main room of those proportions, sadly up here I'd need to be a Millionaire to afford it! RiChards Castle Floorstanders made some lovely music as I remember.

Still when the rebuild is completed upstairs I'll hopefully have a nice usable room for the stereo system and also opening up the old loft space will give me a very nice little workroom for the test gear and soldering and assembly instead of using a damp old draughty garage!

Thanks guys, it's great to have a meet up with you from time to time. Yes we're very lucky, the good lady and I have always been into listening to music and the moment we saw the house 30 years ago had to have it. Took us 5 years to decorate it the first time round though! She had a Kef Corelli/Nad 3020/Dual set up when we met and I had ESL57/Quad 33/405/LP12 with SME and V15. Even now we still spend many evenings listening rather than TV
