Phew!

Have you thought of the Russian 6P14PEV? These are sometimes sold as EL84M. They are often available on EBay and should be fairly cheap. I have found them to work very well in my Leak stereo20, nice meaty sound. And electrically more robust than standard EL84's. Mine were bought from maplins back when they sold Valves, and were branded Edicron jobs as EL84's. But they were these russian jobs when I took the magnifying glass to them.
If You do get them, the number engraved on the valve will be in cyrillic script and look like 6pi14piEB. (pi being symbol for pi i.e a russian P)

For the cost you have nothing to lose by trying the Russian valve I have some Russia 6SL7 and 6P3S which are 6L6s and all sound very good save yourself a lot of money and try the Russian EL84 first
