Who wants an end of side lift or motor turn off on a turntable, just something else to go wrong.
Having spent years fixing these things they are just a pain in the a**e.

Yes John, I am very happy with my latest TT being a Denon DP-80 direct drive sunk into a CLD plinth built by Nigel (vinylspinner) and veneered by Colin Topps (Toppsy). A big improvement over my previous Garrard 401 in a Slatedeck imho. Coupled to an Audiomods Series 6, 10.5 inch carbon fibre arm, which has manual drop and lift, what more could I want? Certainly nothing automated.

Yep also happy with the Turntables I own which are the British version AR.EB101 my first Table still runs well after all this time totally manual too

others are the rega 3 original plinths with twin pulley drive belts and rega RB250 custom.

And theirs my Thrones TD150 mkII and TD160 mkII .unmodified with Rega RB251 standard. On the 160

I have no plans on buying any another Turntables All work well with no fancy lifters or auto stops they just do what they were designed to do play records well

John have you actually seen a Kenwood arm lift mech. it's really simple, does not interfere in any way with the function/sound of the deck and only comes into play when the side is finished and after 11 years of ownership of a deck that has been used for something like 40 years has never malfunctioned.

Before the Kenwood I used manual only decks and I have scratched LPs - tired late at night or imbibed - never has happened since I had the Kenwood.

In record shops or car booting, how often have I seen LPs obviously scratched by manually lifting the arm. Nobody is perfect, it's easily done. Eliminating the possibility of naffing an LP is common sense - now hands up those who have never scratched an LP - Bob Orbell - mister perfect.
