I believe Steve's experiments were with a 12AX7/ECC83 and the example in question that he uses the parallel valves is his RIAA 5. I should have said.... humbly, -- Andrew |

Re: Mr Steve Bench and his parallel valves...
Yes Mark, I also hate Bass being spelt Base. We are after all on the right side of the pond.

Re: Mr Steve Bench and his parallel valves...
Isn't base the bottom end of the speaker?
Sorry, attempt at a joke. Regards Richard Higgins Last edited by Richard Higgins; 27th January 2006 at 11:19 AM. |

Re: Mr Steve Bench and his parallel valves...
Base would be more logical but bass it is. All a bit fishy really. Perhaps the old English bafs would look more musical

Re: Mr Steve Bench and his parallel valves...
There is a danger with all this bass, of it getting a little fishy, but I really don't want to go there .
Regarding Steve Bench's RIAA 5 , does that have paralleled sections anywhere ? if so, ask Dave Dove, he's using that at the moment and has been very pleased with it . Seems to be sometime used at the front end of a phono, to get extra transconductance . 2A3 amp is a little complicated - one of the reasons it works ( in some people's experience ) better with one valve per ch is because the mains transformer and PS are inadequate to run the 4 2A3's , so with just two , the dynamics improve . This does, as Greg points out, depend on whether you can get away with just 3 WPC .. Mark |
