Hi all, I have rewired my kat34 and am in the process of mounting 4 rather large Mundorf m-tube caps (100uf)...

I would imagine it is this KaT34.

Hi all,

Yes it is the Kat34 that i rewired...To tell you the truth the reason i didnt test the voltages is because i have never done it before, and not 100% sure how to.

What i do know is that there are lethal voltages inside that can kill and so care has to be taken. From reading i also know that the black lead from the multi meter gets crocodile cliped on to star earth so that one hand is free, and then the red lead is used for probing certain points to get readings...the multimeter is set to dc voltage.

what i dont know is the following.

When taking voltage reading are the valves pluged in or left out at this stage?

Are the speakers connected to the amp?

And what pins/points does the red lead probe?

When i rewired, i made the mistake of leaving the capacitors till last...as they was larger then my exsisting capacitors, i had to drill the chassis, but everything was already rewired inside the amp...is it posible that the drilling has caused certain components to malfunction?

Also when i say rewired..i dont mean everything..certain things were left as they was...i will take a pic to show before and after, as this may give you all a better idea. What i have learned in doing this...is that it is not worth cutting corners...and now i wish that i just did a total rebuild as i think this would of ended up being easier...ah well at least im learning.

Yes i have the circuit diagram.

I only seem to have part 2 of the article in paper form which does not have the full circuit diagram.

All i can say is that each rectifier valve should have 365v on pins 4 & 6.

Hi,

If you redrilled the PCB to fit the bigger cap leads it's entirely possible that you broke some of the traces or lifted some of the solder pads involved. I've done this many times.

Check for continuity between the cap leads and the next components in the circuit.

Thanks but i have the Kat34 here which is a hardwire version, does'nt use pcb. I drilled the top of the chassis so that i could mount the caps ontop, and just wondered wether the vibrations the drilling caused could of broke some of the components inside.

Well,you have two voltages listed at points A & B so you can check those.

Are you familiar with circuit diagrams ?

If so check continuity between components and also check all the earths.(with the power off)

If both channels are dead its most likely the power supply somewhere (page 2 on your circuit).
