class D - anyone?

Hi-as i now have "charlize" i can comment on this subject.

i would say that IMHO the t-amp was better than my solid state amp,but not as "listenable" as the Quad II or 300b se (with the Fostex speakers).

I'm not being disrespectful and acknowledge Peter is being Knowledgable but I don't agree he displays wisdom here. Al hinted at it above and any of you who also heard Alnewalls system at Eggfest 2 must conclude he has a very acceptable sound for a very low financial outlay. I and I know others were impressed........certainly class D can sound very good. It's that old suck it and see thing. The theory often doesn't support the evidence. Remain secure Al that your class D system has alot to offer and sounds better than much other stuff I've heard. Be proud of what you have achieved.

I've got a sonneteer bronte tripath digital integrated if any one's interested,it has fantastic detail, smooth sound,reasonable soundstageing but a flat unemotive sound.It retails at around £900,it's mint condition, any offers?
I much prefer kel84,matter of personal taste.

I built my first pair of loudspeakers and assembled a seperates system 35 years ago. I am not a newbie.
I have owned a SE amp in the past and will probably end up with another one. In the mean time I have enjoyed experimenting with all manner of stereo equipment, both commercial and DIY.
I am heading in the same direction as most other members of this forum, its just that I haven chosen a different road.
However, in 35 years i dont remember ever having dismissed something out of hand.

While i'm new to the forum,i'm not exactly new to hifi.I built my first buget seperates system nearly 25years ago,in my humble opinion, digital (at
present) is probably best utilised in a sub woofer.Amplification wise at least.
I hope this does'nt blow my chance of sellin mine.It was very well reviewed by (gasp) hifi world

It's only my opinion, you know, you are all perfectly welcome to have your own ideas as to what may, or may not, sound good in a system. I must admit to trying to provoke reactions in what started out as a very tired looking thread.

As I said IMO digital amps can be made to sound 'nice' when carefully bandwidth limited. The best bandwidth limiting is in a subwoofer. There could be a good case for using its efficiency here (as I have done in the past).
