So you know about that?
Much like the moon landings it is of course all faked at Eastbourne beach, jolly convincing it is too *

* Look out for the Ice Cream vans and leftover Moon Buggy doubling as a competitors vehicles.

Ok - an update for those of you who have not read the blog (and judging by the website stats - thats quite a few!!!)

A few days ago there was a horrendous stage which ended up with a few cars and bikes having to be abandoned. The TBWB team decided that the section they all got stuck in was too much, so they took a detour expecting to get hit with a time penalty in accordance with the rules of the rally (set out before the event). The rules also state if you are not back within the set time you will get a penalty of the longest time + x hours. Also what it states is that if you can not start a stage for whatever reason you will also be handed a time penalty. This would mean that by taking a detour and not getting stuck in the desert (a.k.a. sensible driving), the TBWB would take a small penalty on top of their time, but then be well sorted (i.e. the car would not be damaged and nor would they!!).

What happened in the end is the organisers of the event have given the people time credit for getting to the first checkpoint in the stage but no further (as they got stuck/broken/whatever) i.e. not penalising them at all. This has meant that some cars that have NEVER finished above our team are now place miles ahead and the TBWB team are 6 hours down on the leader which when you analyse the time sheets (i have done this - very difficult as they are in german!!) and see that the TBWB have always been in the top few times (bar one occasion) their final position will not be representative of the rally they drove in comparison with the other drivers. Judging from what I can tell, one group of teams (the ones who got stuck in the desert) have persuaded the judges into giving them "wiggle-room" on the rules.

Anyway, the TBWB team asked the organisers to re-consider. They said no and we replied "Right, were off then". The team is now en route to Tunisia to catch the next ferry back to Europe and civilisation!

Anyway, there were a couple more stages left, but nothing too exciting nor challenging.

It seems a hell of a shame that the organisers write reams of rules before the rally and then do not stick to them throughout...

Anyway, I will leave you with some photos...

More photos and definately some videos will be acquired after all the relevant parties get back to europe.

I will also advise of the TV schedule if anyone's interested!

Cheers

The Moose

What's the story behind the WD sponsorship? Are the crew all enthusiastic WD kit-builders in their spare time?
