Step Up Transformers

As I remember, the SUT on my Phono3S are the square jobs.
I reckon they are pretty good.
That said I am starting to think hard about SUT's in view of some stuff I have read of late.
A good, and I do mean a GOOD, active step up stage using the dreaded silicon stuff might offer advantages with certain cartridges such as the oft much maligned denon DL103 low output version.
My take on this was after reading the new 4th edition of the Morgan Jones book. He reckons the DL103 doesnt like SUT's and could be a reason why its not as well liked as it should be. Obviously MJ rates the Denon.
The chapter goes into great detail that I cant explain here. But I started wondering about it.
The newest circuit in the MJ bible is a fully balanced hybrid RIAA stage using a transistor in the tail of a cascode using a pair of ECC88 per channel to get the gain without the expense of a SUT and the noise of a valve stage suitable for 200uV sensitivity.
Food for thought. And got me thinking about the money I have spent on exotic Ortofons.
I still rate my NWA refurbished and aligned Quintet Black however.
