Hi All
Well tried the old belt again no difference so the belt can be rule out
I swapped over the complete drawer systems of both players same problem with it in the good player so it’s not a logic chip as john pointed out already so it must be the motor or its catching somewhere but can’t see where
I have a new motor I can fit but this maybe harder than I thought due to one the shaft will need cut down and two there’s getting the pulley off the old motor

AH well don’t think I can use the new motor as its only 2.5v the old one is 5.6v on the label
I wondered if the pulley was slipping but doesn’t seem to be
Then I checked the micro switch which looks a bit user worn but must still be working as the drawer is opening and closing just not all the way in or out unless I rock the tray back and forth on the open switch then It will slam closed or open fully
anyone an idea where I can get a replacement micro switch for the CDM12

Hi Colin, I still think that the tray is sticking, have you tested to see if the motor still has voltage after the tray stops? this may help you. BOB

Hi Colin,
yes as Bob says have another look at the drawer. It may be sticking at the point the tray ramps up/down. When the tray's pulled out there are ramps and pins iirc that need cleaning and greasing. Can you swap the drawer tray for the one off the other machine or compare them if they're the same model to see if any bits are missing/broken? When the old tray gear first breaks it usually starts sheding teeth at that point in the action so there must be extra loading there.

Hi Bob/Richard
Swapped over the tray from good player no difference the good tray travels same distance in or out

Voltage drops to zero when tray stops motor running voltage reads 3.26 volts
I wonder if it’s the lasers rubber shock mounts becoming stiff with age trouble is you can’t check for this when the tray is moving

I had a similar problem on an old Philips cd player, turned out to be a partial lack of power to the cd mech. Replacing the main PSU electrolytic capacitors fixed it.

I'm not technical but I guess the capacitors weren't storing enough juice to fully complete the job.

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete
Yep I had thought about it being a cap but didn’t consider it to be a main PSU Cap as the player works fine if I close the tray by hand but will check that idea out thanks
