( I am not sure where you get that its smaller that 55)

drive units only displace about a litre or so, so can be discounted.

but even so, its VERY unfussy, there is minimal difference in 'design' between 80 litres and 60 litres, hardly affects it, and you can tune obviously with the port, it doesn't seem to affect peaking, making 20 litres larger, morely just giving an xtra 2-3 hz of bass extension

its absoultely textbook, ie the size of the actual cabinet is the first value the computer simulator comes up with, which makes me wonder a little how much r/d the design had, ie. if they didn't stick it in and said 'that'll do'

remember, you have both bass reach, ie hertz, and amplitude, ie height at that frequency, and as said b4, I have heard speakers that cutt off around 80 hz depth, but still sound good fullsome bass, probably slightly boosted amplitude, or compromised transient response, or some other mysterious phenomenon

check it out in winisd or even better paste the audax hm210co driver into winisdpro, I have other software, at times winisd can be a slightly inaccurate I feel. its good enuff for this tho

whether that makes a difference in sound quality, but with this driver on the design sheet its very very uncritical.

thicker walls/bracing are to do with cabinet resonance, mine are very very thick and unresonant, superbly built, it obviously depends on the build you have done. but you said you have swept it, so that's obviously pretty investigative and conclusive for your build.

As to frequency response, I do notice a slight peakiness in the mid, whether that was my recording overshooting the levels, which I partly suspect it was, but I ain't 100% happy with the bass-mid transistion, it is a little dark and distant, but that could be the drive units sound themselves, still a superb pair of speakers.

Bass is tight for a ported, hand drums tight and very very accurate transient response, not a flabby mess but real crisp attack, quite remarkable.

deep but flat bass, no nasty peaking from the design, but I do think as it goes so low it may be casuing problems with certain rooms. sometimes I think the bass is too good, ie too flat, its more like a sealed box sound, it goes VERY deep but I personally like a slight hump and emphasis and fullness, however that may be remedied by a valve amp, most of the above is my personal preferences, and depending on rooms and amps, obviously ymmv, and no doubt will
Just been reading this thread again to see what Ian said about the KLS3.

Seems he has very different ideas now ! (not that we should not change our minds of course )

Interesting to read the thread again. Also interesting to relate that in the very original Mk1 articles, Domonic Baker commented on the ability of the delivered bass to excite certain rooms and offered a lift tweak to deal with it. I've not personally needed that even in a room less than 4m x 4m. It's how you tune it that counts and I continue to get thunderous bass which vibrates the back of the chair and you can feel in your chest if it's there on the recording to be replicated. As ever it's about system balance or synergy and for me that is an arguement in favour of my get there and be contented approach. Considering that getting it all really right can take a long time with some very fine tuning, constantly changing components in the chain such as amps will always leave you compromised. Get it basically right which means not swapping out major parts of the system and then fine tuning with attention to cable and components etc will improve to a point of excellence. I've done that. It works. I'm happy
