Wondeful !! I started with my old Musical Fidelity MC2 speakers, and they have NEVER sounded so good.

What i was hoping for was a "BIG" sound without being excessively loud, like i heard from Nicks 211,and that is what i have !!

Old cliché perhaps, but i'm hearing new details on recordings i thought i knew well.

I will try the VoFos soon, and perhaps the KLS3 later to see if they can "kick ass" like they have never done before.

My original "brief" for the 845 project was an amp to make my KLS3 speakers really "sing",and i have achieved this aim.

The MC2 and KLS3 seem more suited to the 845 than the VoFos.

KLS3 now have the lower end "power" that lesser (less powerful) amps have denied them in the past. I always thought that KLS3 needed more "watts" and now i know !

Dont get me wrong, they don't sound at all bad with the VoFos,just better with KLS3.

Nice result Phillip. The 845's not a bad valve is it? Would still rather have a 45 or 211 but I need some grunt to drive the statics. You can't have everything I suppose..

Phil,

Glad to see (a while after initial test) that you are STILL with us.

Do you think the you would still prefer the Vofos for their coherence?, or has this new project blurred the line for you, now that you're hearing greater things from the 3 ways?

Hi-i still rate the VoFos with amps of lesser power (ie 2W-15W) and they do sound very good.

But 845 has the sort of sound i have only heard from BIG valves (211,GM70 etc) and KLS3 matches them very well.

Still got the Adires to listen to with 845,and a small hum problem to sort out.

In order to see what hum the 300b part of the setup was giving i have substituted the ECL82 "Doddington" as the driving amp.Just two wires needed changing, one soldered and the other on a tag attached to a 4mm screw.

The level of hum is now much less,so the 300b amp was the culprit,as i suspected.

Now at the moment i have only used them with the VoFos in this configuration and as such they don't seem to have quite the "magic" that 300b gave. The difference is small though.

Will try them with Adires and KLS3 during the day and see what the overall opinion is.
