which is the version of DSOTM where you're supposed to be able to hear the Beatles on the leadout track where the engineer over recorded an old tape
or is it just an urban myth

Not quite a myth David, because I've heard it.

I'll play the record this evening but if I remember correctly, and I'd be surprised if I do, wherever it is I will have to turn the volume up really loud -

Anyone.... any hints as to the end of which track????????????????????????

Apparently if you play certain Black Sabbath tracks backwards you can hear the devil requesting that you kill your parents.

so I've heard..........!

DSOM is a total cliche and a fantastic album all rolled into one IMHO

I have worked with folk who hear all sorts of voices coming from all sorts of places telling folk to do this sort of thing, anyway, so much for the nurses, the patients could be paranoid as well.

Best ask Prince of Darkness, he'll know.

That'll earn you some heckling and slow hand clapping from the RCN. You could end up on the same pedestal as Patricia Hewitt

Rrr well I never liked the rcn, a very wooden organisation wich gets poor results for it's members who mostly join for snobbery status as non registered nurses can't join, such people always carry a massive great big broach which interfeers with safe working practice as a nurse, I was in Unison.

You and me alike. I was in the now defunct NUPE. It's still an interesting day when the RCN displays a little public dissention.

I had a check last night. it seems to be at the very end of eclipse, during the final heartbeats, on the right hand channel. its most obvious on the first remastered CD from early 90s. it is also on my German Pressing of the LP (only just) but I couldn't detect it at all on the 30th anniversary 180gm vinyl re-issue. IIRC, the 30th anniversary edition was redone from the multitrack tapes. Which means that it must be on the original two track master and the sound breakthrough probably occured at final mixdown, rather than recording (or they found it on one of the tracks and muted it during remixing)

I had to turn my HD83 all the way up to maximum to hear it, too.

Apparently, and I don't know whether it's true/factually correct, the first tranche of releases were cut using a Neuman (sp?) cutting lathe which effectively meant the music signal had to be digitised (so the story went). Analogue freaks complained about the big fanfare of the new super-duper 'analogue' pressings that were, in fact, digital. The second tranche were supposed to be fully analogue.

Looking at the two EMI100 releases I have - DSOTM is from the first batch and the label on the sleeve includes "Direct Metal Mastered". This is the Sea by The Waterboys from the second batch instead has this "Analogue Cutting From Analogue Tapes". So maybe it was true, or maybe not.

Simon.
This fits in with what I read in a HIFI mag at the time of the EMI100 DSOM release, someone claiming that EMI only had digital cutting lathes, to "cut" LPs with, and that the signal had to be digitised at some point no matter what the source.
Could be just hearsay of course.
I have bought digitally remastered 60s stuff before, it never sounds (to me) right. May as well buy the cd?
