You can afford it Bob.

Worst vehicle I ever had for fuel consumption was a Chevrolet ambulance with a 6.5L V-8 diesel and auto transmission. As low as 12 MPG on occasions.

As a new member who works away from home and has many pieces of hi fi and motor bikes I object to this comment
"Considering the names of some of these new members, I suspect they have no interest in WD or hifi at all and are probably much more inclined towards alternative sexual communication. They are more likely to be similar to spammers who are simply using this forum to piggy back their communications through private messages. I would suggest Matthew and his moderators do some exploration on this and delete those who are abusing the forum system".
Please retract it and apologise

Sorry to say, Gregs analysis of many new forum members (and this applies to many other forums, or forii as well), is all too correct.

The old adage "if the cap fits" is one to remember.

Smithblue3, your username does not attract the observation I have made. I do not retract what I have said particularly when challenged by a first time user. I have communicated privately on this with the forum owner and made some suggestions on how he could help to eliminate new members intent on abusing the system for whatever their personal reasons might be.

Rather than jumping in with your challenge to me, what about introducing yourself as a new user and expand on your Hifi and motorcycle interests? Many of us would be interested to know more, and doing so might open up opportunities for you to make new friends that will extend the pleasure you have for your interests.

PS, there is another member who lives in Scarborough who could become your HiFi mentor if you are into valve amplifier design. What he knows (and could willingly share) will never be surpassed except by only a very few. You could become a recipient of that guidance if you want to be friendly. It makes sense to ingratiate!

Hi Richard,
Yes that's the easy bit.
Greg implies that people are using this forum for nefarious purposes ie illegal emails).
How do I access their private messages? (I can't of course as they are private - hence the name). Possibly the web host can do so but I do not think that we as super moderators can. Shades of NSA CIA GCHQ et al.
If I could do it then I would possibly be be accused of censorship and that is not what this forum is about.

John

People can view forum posts without having to register, or log on.

So, if anyone registers it seems likely they may want to post, and take part in forum activity.

Therefore, perhaps anyone who registers and does not post within (for example) 7 days should be considered dubious ?

Some forums make it a condition of joining that new members introduce themselves, which seems a fair thing to do in my (most humble ) opinion.

There were accusations that the previous administration had accessed private messages, and the allegations were refuted by saying it was not possible for it to happen.

I doubt (but cannot possibly substantiate it) that PM's are being used for nefarious purposes.
