Steve, are you using Bootcamp to run Windows? Just bought a MacBook Pro myself, after my iBook committed suicide with its second logic board failure, bless it.

No Dave

I'm using Parallels Desktop.

BootCamp only works with Windows XP SP2 and you have to have the SP2 version. An old version with an upgrade disk won't do.

Parallels on the other hand will run with any version of Windows right back to Windows 95. You can also run many flavours of Linux too

It runs Windows in a virtual machine so you can run both OSes at the same time. With BootCamp it's either/or I'm afraid, so every time you want to run Windows you have to reboot.

Windows runs at near native speed in Parallels.

Ed (VitalStates) very kindly let me have a copy of Windows 2000 to run on my machine and it flies.

We Mac users can now run virtually any piece of software on the planet.
Good eh!

Steve

I didn't know about parallels desktop - sounds pretty good.

I'll probably still continue with my cheapo Novatech laptop for XP stuff - it didn't come with a full copy of XP, just a rebuild CD which I understand is simply a disk image. (I'm not paying Micro$oft for another copy of Windows just to run one or two pieces of software).

It's also SP1 so it remains permanently disconnected from the internet!!

Back on topic, given that I'm looking to learn to program for the Mac using Xcode, this looks like quite a nice simple project. From what I can gather, it works out the nearest value that can be achieved with up to two resistors, either in series or parallel, yes?

I like my niece. She has nice knees. My great niece is very nice too.

Never would I claim to know everything and never make a mistake. I hope too, that I don't even imply perfection.
