Hi folks.

Does anyone know where I can get an insulated chassis mount 75Ω aerial socket? I am sick of the silly screw terminals on the back of the Trough Line.

I tried an uninsulated one ages ago and it must have created an earth loop as it caused a load of hum. I find it hard to believe that you can't get an insulated one from anywhere, but can I find one?

Cheers,

I'm sure with a bit of ingenuity you could insulate the one you've got

Hi-i have a Delrin offcut 50mm X 37mm x 3mm fik which could be used to mount a non insulated socket on.

If its any use PM me your address.

Or I can let you have BNC or F-Type

Cheers,

Hello soulminer, I don't know if you fancy this but i attached a short piece of coax, secured with a P clip on the 300 ohm terminal and with a line socket on the end. Not as neat as a chassis socket i grant you but it makes the aerial plugable and saves taking power tools to the tuner. Pic attached.

Regards, Phil.

Thanks for the help guys.

@ Phil Y - Already have that solution. It's what I am using at the moment. Cheers.

@Pre65 - I have plenty of stuff to insulate with myself thanks Philip. Just thought it would be easier to get a chassis mounted insulated aerial socket to fit the hole I have already drilled to fit the last one.

@Greg - I don't have it any more. Threw it away.

@Mike - I might have a bash with a BNC or F Type. That sounds the best solution I think. I will pop to Maplins and get a couple to play with. Cheers.

Every TV, Freeview box, Midi system, Video, DVD player, etc etc etc, has aerial sockets, so why are they so hard to come by I wonder??

Thanks all,

Lee,
A BNC is not really suitable for a lot of the coaxes in use for FM aerials as it will not take the size.
An F type is much better and at least you can get screw on F type connectors for the cable, and before anyone leaps down my throat for suggesting screw on types, they are perfectly suitable for this application where once fitted they are seldom removed.

I didn't think of the cable size John. How silly of me, and that's after using F-type quite a lot with C.B. radio aerials in the 80's too. Doh!! Looks like it's going to be an F type then.

An F socket would be just the job. You can get nice 90 degree elbows so you don't crush the aerial cable. They are far better than Belling-Lee type.

I agree, we use many many thousands of them at work and seldom have any problems, push on adapters are available too (I can provide a few of these at 100% discount! ).
