Re: DIY mc Transformer ?
Quote:
Having said that I didn't like the 1042 I found it very sibilant not at all like all the mags say it was very detailed though. I sold mine on epay when I got a Denon 103 and think its a far nicer sounding cartridge even if the bass it quite so extended. I would recommend a 103 or if you want stick to MM a Shure V15III they can be had off epay for around £100 with stylus second hand of course. |

Re: DIY mc Transformer ?
I agree about the 1042, its not bad at all, quite good for an mm, but not all its cracked up to be.
I did find the 103 a bit soft and sibilant, but it was new, and not run in. |

Re: DIY mc Transformer ?
It depends how DIY you want to go. Sowter do very good MC step up transformers. My 10:1s were £50ish each (about 5 years ago).

Re: DIY mc Transformer ?
hi-i have looked at the sowter site and they do them with wires,or octal base at £48.75 each + vat and carriage.
the ones to suit the DL103 are 9580F (leads) or 9580G (octal). they look similar to the famed 4722 peerless (altec). Dont know if anyone on the forum has tried them. regards Philip |

Re: DIY mc Transformer ?
What about this for a DL103:
http://www.audiocubes.com/product/De...ng_Trance.html I believe it is the one to match the cartridge. Bit od a steal at the price. i might try one. Gerry |

Re: DIY mc Transformer ?
yes that's a great price, may try one myself, they go for more than that on ebay in germany where they are popular.
can't go wrong, perfect match for the 103 |

Re: DIY mc Transformer ?
hi-thanks for sharing that.
i was watching one on e-bay,its up to Euro 132,with 5 hours to go. just goes to show e-bay isn't always cheap. i didn't find this supplier when i did a search recently, but i'm glad i've found it now. equates to about £70 inc carriage. regards Philip Last edited by pre65; 2nd March 2006 at 05:17 PM. |

Re: DIY mc Transformer ?
Well I've just ordered one so I will let you know how long it takes etc. I've thinking about some transformers...my pre has a valve input so interested to guage the quality....valves are supposed to be noiser?!
I looked at the Ortofon T-10s etc but the go for £30 plus on the bay. Other transformers such as Sowter etc will cost over a £100 with out the case....WADs were £75! So this seems a no-brainer at £71-£72! We'll just have to wait and see.....was tempted by the Denon DL103R...heard great things about it! But I did resist! Gerry PS I used the Audiocubes2.com website....seemed to have a faster delivery time! |

Re: DIY mc Transformer ?
I have the audio technica which has a suckout, the t5's are better, quite good for the cash, the t30 is kak for the cash, one cost me £200 and no better than the t5, t3000 very good, but like the kontra B, too much.
t5s are no brainers as they attatch to the sockets, no grounding or noise issues, none better than my diy's, but even these aren't colourless, they have slight sheen....some more on the way...hopefully... |
