Default Re: What's this pick-up cable?

I've not had chance to do the "iron test" yet, although I think the cable quality is good, and due to it being flexible its ideal for suspended decks which it will be used for.

This is the third RB I have had, the first would not balance out, it was either pointing up or down, so I got rid. The next (standard RB250) is like new and floats perfectly at horizontal, but this one is presenting problems. It sets to horizontal balance reasonably well, but I cannot set the bias (usually on a blank portion of the disc) as even on the minimum setting it will pull towards the outside. When the arm is at balance and I gently tap it towards the spindle, it resists strongly so I can only think that the bias system is not cancelling or there is too much lead torque? Also I have noted that just inside the arm tube where the leads emerge there is some kind of filler, a sort of elastic stuff the colour of putty, whether this extends up the arm tube I am not sure.

If you want to get the best out of a Rega RB250, I'd have a look here.

Certainly the biasing is properly sorted out amongst many other things including decent bearings that'll sort arm balancing. The original magnetic bias system is rubbish IMHO.

Thanks for the advice to have the arm professionally upgraded, although I have re-wired arms in the past, in fact I have used one of the thinnest wires available and was used on the Connoisseur SAU 2.

Having had a closer look at the internal wiring on this RB300, I think it is excessively thick and I'm sure is degrading its performance. It also has a 5 pin DIN socket which is handy but not sure whether that is standard or not.
