Actually, you don’t even need to know the letters other than first and last in a word. Just the number of letters as in
W _ _ _ d D _ _ _ _ _ s.

I feel for you guys with Dyslexia, I have a similar problem with following complex diagrams and mathematical formulae, the symbols just swim in front of my eyes so it takes me a long time to work through them. Although give me a map or sea chart and I'm in my element so i suspect there are other factors at play.
For what its worth I had a chargehand at work who was very badly dyslexic, he was almost illiterate as a result. But he was amazing at solving complex spatial problems in 3 dimensions which was very handy in our business environment.
One mans disability can very often be another mans gift or talent.
Moderators, perhaps this discussion should be split off and moved to the coffee bar, it isnt trivial but probably off topic on this thread.
Andy.

I'm sure that, after all these years, it widely is recognised that I am a grammar and syntax zealot. I get unreasonably exercised by the sloppy approach generally had by the current text-addicted generation to the proper construction and use of English. This mostly derives from the very low level of academic importance afforded the subject and the lamentable quality of tuition provided by the politically-motivated knitted sandals brigade masquerading as teachers more concerned with gender identity and fatuous inclusivity than imparting knowledge which conceivably might be of some practical worth to pupils. Like reading, writing and 'rithmatic which have been the foundations of Western education and social cohesion for millennia.

However, this thread has made it clear to me that there can be reasons for a fall from grace other than those suggested above. I have to say that I'm surprised and more than a little concerned that so many here seem afflicted by the obviously debilitating handicap of dyslexia. I can only imagine (and probably not very well at that) how frustrating this condition must make life and how much time and nervous energy it must consume. I have much empathy with those who suffer; I shall temper future judgements with the understanding that there are those who through no fault of their own, may not be able to perform as either they nor myself would wish.

If there are problems with writing letters or important documents, there are always writing services. It really simplifies our lives. I often refer to this. It helped me many times. This is necessary in school especially. I can not quickly come up with an essay and write it correctly. It always takes a lot of time, so I use these services
