Re: what are you listening to now
Isn't the Laughing Gravy a pseudonym for the Beach Boys or a Brian Wilson side-project? The track 'vegetables' from the SMiLE album came out with the band listed as The Laughing Gravy before the official SMiLE release.

I think this is nearer the mark, they are quite a strange act, but have a grin factor 10. Kinda cajun blues. Like Tom waits, leneard cohen, bob dylan, hayseed dixie, and a good shot dose of oddness.

Re: what are you listening to now
Tool - 10,000 days
Phenomenal latest release from a band that shows what progressive rock might've evolved into if it hadn't been swamped by the 1980 'New Wave of British Heavy Metal' and three decades of unimaginative record companies. Having read through this thread tonight I reckon this album will strike a chord for Prince and Martin in particular (Floyd with power-metal bollocks meets Sabbath with maturity and intelligence). As I've only had it since Sunday I haven't heard it right through yet (not to 'herself's' taste thus the idiot box gets switched on everytime I try to get a listen... guess why I've got the headphones on at 3:15 am), but so far it's spot on. If this album hits the spot, their Lateralus album is also absolutely astounding, and a further complimentary choice would be 'Mer de Noms' or '13th Step' by Perfect Circle. Not suprising they go well together - same singer/songwriter. A particular highlight on 13th step is the first track 'The Package', starts with a nicely understated guitar intro that sets the scene for an absolutely gob-smacking bass riff - turn it up and let your bass drivers knock you through the back wall!! Oh wow!! - '10,000 Days' still playing.... fantastic!! I suspect it'll emulate Lateralus in becoming 'resident CD' in my player for the next few weeks/months - so addictive it should carry a government health warning!! You might've guessed I rather like it!! If you really want to mess with your head try this vid on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tQjizHojrY&search=tool (broadband only, it'll take years to download via modem) |
