hi David,
Funny thing, my 84 has been quiet with no more morse messages since I threatened to send it down to John Caswell for an examination.
Must be psychic as well as a good communicator.
Now that I have settled in with my Castle Clydes and forgotten the Isobariks, it's never sounded better.
Just about to do the heater mod thanks to help and encouragement from Terry.

thats good news about the 84 settling down, altho id still like to know what causes it to act up. It's a good little amp when it works ok eh, as i said before you have to spend (commercially) nearly a grand to noticably better it. Even then you have to spend carefully, the only amp i came across that fitted the bill was Icon's 40i. I've been using one fitted with KT88s for about a year now and it's an excellent amp, i have had a good offer for it though so i might (hopefully) be buying their new 50i. It has more welly in the bass dept so maybe this plus the WD25T's, will negate the need for a sub.

I also carried out most of the mod's to the 84, except the heater mod. Running the heaters using the modified rectifier may actually solve the problem,of course i thought about this after id sold mine. The mod i noticed seemed to work quite well was the cap upgrade to the p/s, it seemed to give a boost to the bass. lowering the feedback however seemed to make the bass looser. If this concerns you id leave the feedback as it is. The other easy one to try is the shunt mod to the volume pot.
