We could have designed our amps to run in Class AB enabling us to get 80W out of a KT88 design. But there is little to be gained. Remember that doubling the power gives you only 3dB extra dynamic range. Far better to get that from sensitive speakers and lessen the work done by the amplifier. 40 W of nice KT88 Class A amplification runs very nicely into WD25s even in large rooms.
Thanks Peter, a very helpful answer. I look foward to investigating the new WD amp kits when they become available

Hi,

Just to repeat a previous question on this thread, will the PHONO-ll/PSU-ll/PRE-ll become available in the near future? and if not, do you have plans for your own WD valve phono stage & preamp?

Thanks.

Peter C.,

If I understood you correctly, the PREIII (and phonoIIIand PSUIII) are due out soon. Do you have a specific date in mind?

Additionally, I already have the PHONOII and PSUII. Will I be able to connect the PREIII to my PSUII without any mods? If not, will you be providing a guide to the necessary mods?

Thanks,

Jeremy.

The description of the Pre3 will be appearing in the next issue of HFW and we hope to have it ready by the end Nov/begin Dec.

We will indicate the mods necessary to run it off a PSU2.
