Hi-at least computers (inc Apple) have the potential to be (are !) a hi-fi storage and playback medium.

Just a thought...........
When does a 'public place' become 'private'?
I was lead to believe that if people are invited onto 'private property' it becomes a 'public place'
I thought a caravan holiday site was private property but it is not,so think on when you drive on site to the clubhouse,if you are over the limit and choose to drive back to the caravan/chalet etc. you are breaking the law.
I suggest this needs consideration.
Another thought,as an aside,i believe Tony Blair as introduced over 1000 new laws since he as been PM,but how do we find out what they are? When we break them

Kindest Regards

Martin

You can store HiFi in a car park. Just pile the boxes up.

3-4 years ago In a Supermarket car park my Brother watched as a p1ssed up ole gent wobbled into the driver seat of his own car, and reversed into my brothers car (in the opposing bay) causing considerable damage and drove away (with newly purchased whisky bottle -his sole purchase)

My Brother reported this accident to the police, who promptly refused to tell him the gentlemens name or address, and point blank refused to do anything about it or assist in any way whatsoever, because the accident technically happened on private property they would not follow this up at all.

However to add insult to injury they insisted that my brother was legally obliged to inform them of the full details of the incident, since he had reported an accident!

Hi Cobblers,

That's **** and current legislation includes supermarket carparks as part of a highway because they are private sites to which the public have access. The same applies to pub carparks which previously were deamed private and outside of the Road Traffic Act legislation, however a few years ago that loophole was closed. If this happened 3 to 4 years ago, the police should have dealt appropriately and it is likely your brother was dealt with by an ignorant police officer. Having said that, nowerdays, we don't persue events if there is no injury or any specific complaint from an idividual involved and expect all to be sorted by the insurance companies (they do a **** job as well; I know from my own experience and you have to beat them up to get a right result).

Basically the Road Traffic Act refers to events that occur on 'Highways' which has it's own definition, however, in recent years, the RTA has expanded to incorporate drivable locations to which the public have access such as private carparks.

In your brothers situation, if the police were not present at the time of the incident, there were no grounds for them to facilitate supply of information of the offenders details. Ideally that should have taken place at the time between your brother and the driver of the other vehicle. That however is not a dead end. As he considered he had a claim against this other driver, he can legitamately apply to DVLA for information on the keeper of the vehicle involved.

It's the old old story of knowing what you can do to sort a problem and the information is not readily available.

Best wishes,

Greg
