Re: my wd25a experiences
there was a letter in, i think, last months hi fi world. Someone saying they feel more of your budget should go on speakers, and how they make the most difference to a system.
Im using the same cd player ive always used, with the same leads. Im using the worst amp ive ever owned (by far!) and ive still got the best sound ive ever had Using various amps that were LOADS better than im using now, with speakers that were still decent didnt sound as good. Peter, you certainly know your stuff. |

Re: my wd25a experiences
There are many people who will say "source first" (a throwback to cheap turntable/cartridge days methinks) and there is certainly a kind of logic to this, however no where else in the chain will you hear such blindingly obvious changes, and more importantly big improvements as upgrading to better loudspeakers.
Of course amp's and CD player do sound very different but speakers are the weakest link in the chain after recording quality. Put simply Audiophiles can tell worthwhile differences in source components which are typically a mystery to their partners but almost everyone (who takes the time to listen) can tell the glaring faults from a bad speaker and appreciates a well designed speaker that works well in it's room. Unfortunately WAF (Wife acceptance factor) factor has condemned hifi sound to mediocrity as speakers are getting smaller and smaller. I like some things that mini monitors (of which I have been a dedicated follower) do but people should recognise their considerable limitations, however much they cost. Still loving the WD25a's |

Re: my wd25a experiences
Not yet, they are on a coffee table. Its a little high, and i cant get them as far appart as i'd like, but its pretty stable.
Stands are next on the list once the amps built. |
