ok, we need to keep a track of whats going on.
If we all list what we want ill place an order, people can paypal me, send me a cheque or whatever when i have the balls.
If you require anything (even if youve already mentioned) then just wright your user name and your requirements. Succsessive replies can copy and paste the previous reply to keep it all in one list.
if anyone requires alot (enough to make up a £25 order) then you may as well order yourselves or postage will keep mounting up.
That ok with everyone?
Ill let this run till the end of the week or so.
I dont mind paying up front, but bear in mind, if you want 3 ptfe, 2 ruby and 2 ceramic you might as well place your own order.

Hi Graeme,

I take your point, but there probably would be an overall saving on postage. if you're managing a joint order, you need to research total cost which includes VAT and then weight which equals postage cost. Then the punters know what's involved. Sorry, don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but that all comes with the responsibility of contributing excellently by facilitating a joint order for forum members. It's a pain to work out but worth it if you think about what your customers have given you with their knowledge. Joint ordering is a nice way of giving something back.

Best wishes,

Greg

I dont think there would be enough of an order to make a difference to purchase price, and as mentioned before, i forgot to find out about vat.
Look at what you want as an example greg, 3 ptfe and probably 2 ruby and 2 ceramic, thats roughly £29, might as well be your own order really. We probably wont get bulk discount, it may save a little postage but i'd have postage costs on top to send them out to you, so the share of the main postage plus the postage from me to you etc.

Thinking about it, a group buy is only worthwhile if we can order enough to get discout (very unlikely) or if someone only wants one or two balls.
Thats why i said theres no point adding to my order unless you only want a small amount. If someone wants one ball ill just stick it on my order and post it on when tehy arrive, no need to worry about exact costs as theres no loads of us interested. For arguments sake, if one ruby is wanted i'd put it on my order, paypal me £5 to cover the ball, the likely vat and the postage on and that would be fine.

cop out.....I'm afraid. Been there and done it. You're not measuring up. It's a contribution personal charity thing that makes a contribution to the ethos of the forum. You have to do a bit of work yet don't go out of pocket. Try it out.

Best wishes,

Greg

Hi-i think Greg is being a bit hard on Graeme.

i understand the logic of putting small orders together to make savings on bulk or to meet minimum order charges but if a single persons order is over the minimum it must make sense to order individually.

if Graeme has to split the postage from the supplier AND charge postage to the recipient then surely it will end up costing more (not a lot).

i would not dream of asking another member to order something for me that i could easily get myself, for the same price.

Philip

Hi Philip,

Sorry mate but that's nonsence. The cheapest order is the single biggest order going to the one source. That cheapness will always be passed on to idividuals who form part of a bulk multiple customer order and the savings will be shared by all even if it is on delivery only. As said, I've been there and done it. Maybe I was blunt (as ever) but I'm intolerant of rigglers. Put your money where your mouth is, stick to your commitment (or implied commitment) and manage it. If someone wants to change the agenda, riggle out of the commitment and start presenting excuses, fine, but I don't then want to read arguement in justification unless the reasoning is valid, which in this case, it isn't. No problem, I'll do my own order. Shame though.

Best wishes,

Greg

Completely off topic if I may.

I am blunt and 99% of people think that when I am blunt I am nasty and rude, but they get that wrong. I am pleasurable mean no malice and blunt.

Greg sometimes makes me seem to be tickling your egos and pampering your pride.

BUT Greg has hit the nail on the head.

There is a very real sharing and giving atmosphere here, where people share freely ideas and even give away components quietly behind the scenes. Many times to their own administrative cost people have organised group orders, Greg included. Many people have piped up help I need a 1 watt 206.78 ohm widget and someone has obliged. I need a 306 volt transformer to build my dream project but have no money, and someone has thought, oh what the heck I have all these transformers occupying too much space in the shed, and a new person has apride and joy a few months later.

On a more practical note, whilst one persons order may exceed the minimum level, that doesnt mean there are not others that only want £10 worth. By combining the order, it ensures that we all gain, and don't have to miss out because of the lower requirement.

If you don't want to do that, thats fine, but remember that one of the things that makes this BB (and as far as I can see WD itself through Peter) is the willingness to help others with a similar interest.

But conversley, it would be equally damaging to the BB if people felt they were being pressured into doing something.

If you don't mind my saying, I think you're all being a bit hard on Graeme. He's perfectly happy to put in a group order for everyone who wants less than £25 worth. All he's saying is that if you want more than that, it's probably quicker, easier and cheaper for him and for you if you submit your own order.
The supplier has a minimum order level, but there's nothing to say that a bigger order will result in lower prices, so I really can't see what's wrong with Graeme's position. He's just trying to save a bit of hassle for himself and everyone else. He's not even worried about recovering exact postage costs for small orders.
