Um, from your last posting you implied that the auction was over ...' £870 ...coming to pick up ....' but according to my version of ebay, there is five days left to run. Have I slipped through a wormhole in the fabric of space and time. I admit, I don't feel very well.

Have I been bidding on the wrong ad - hahahahahahahaha?

ohdearohdearohdear (confusion abounds, pains in chest, should go home and lie down)

Item 180086989992 failed to make its reserve, reached £572, on 24 Feb.
Readvertised as 180089560578 on 24th with end of auction on 3rd March,
currently at £465.

Looks like you don't have to eat the amp Andrew, unless we have both dropped into a worm hole. Or is this another quirk of ebay I don't understand.

I'm guessing Lincoln's got an offer at that price and is waiting for it to come good before taking the auction off. If so, that's good, a fair price indeed

Is that £465 each, or for the pair?

Its an odd thing, I think its a lot to do with brand names and image, and as Paul correctly says, these auctions are tremendously fickle, there are a lot of factors at play, and its actually very difficult indeed to explain why one does really well and one doesn't, and a lot of the time, you can have bad listings going well, and great listings going bad.

But in truth, I think by and large, most people don't want a kit built thing, for some reason the man in the street views it as a lesser product, possibly built to a poor standard, possibly with problems or little/ no support.

Unless its status is magically enhanced by a review/mention in a hifi mag., which inevitably adds some significant value to it. to slowly decline as the memory of it ebbs away. Funny how your status and items you mention in passing is magically enhanced if you contribute to a mag., and your words suddenly have weight.

And excellent as we know they can be, wad kits just aren't a desirable brand, again to do with marketing and image, now if it was musical fidelity, or naim for instance, its all in the name, however, even some things of that and linn are now devaluing badly.

that's all coming from a retiring ebay watcher.

There are other factors, time of year, as alluded to, even time of the month, and perhaps if someone or two reads about them, and there is a gap of ages that they want it so bad, perhaps it will do better.

Its impossible for me to explain, I wish I knew.

Kit speakers are even worse, largely worth zilch.

Just check this out for an insulting final price...

I can understand shill bidding to a certain extent, not to get a monster profit, but the way some auctions go, just to get a fair reasonable price, instead of something bombing, the only winner in this game is always ebay, who get listings, final fees, and paypal fees, its the sellers that usually suffer. Sometimes its just too much trouble for what its worth. the things I have seen go from other sellers, good things, and noone wants them at all. I am about to get a lovely tuner for £2. They can't even give it away.

Well that amp fetched exactly what the description deserved. Not even a model number. Difficult to imagine a worse write-up, and no specs whatsoever. Take out all the stupid negative/personal comments, explain the quality build and design, point to the active WD website and it should have fetched another £100. Not one of yours I take it Ian

nope, not one of mine.

I bet he was miffed with the price, really a joke. I have seen worse descriptions go for more.

I find that ebay does tend to generally reward the seller, but I've also got some real bargains.
I guess the glut of cheap Japanese hifi valve amps (and other) has seriously hit the second hand market value (I am good at BS too, heh)

Almost OT, but I must post this! (sorry)

I'm selling a few valve amps on ebay atm, but guitar ones (and a stack cab). All of some vintage, these are simplistic beauties of the valve world, especially the Marshall 1959 (stroke, stroke), I must say!

http://tinyurl.com/2bco5z (Marshall Super Lead 100W)
http://tinyurl.com/269yh5 (Marshall 4x12)
http://tinyurl.com/2aba8v (Vox AC30)

I've lost count of people trying to get these through 'the back door' of the auction, sheesh! heellloooo, it's an auction!
