If ever a musician / composer of the latter part of the 20th century was worthy of his own thread, it has to be Frank Vincent Zappa. If nobody else does it I'll get round to it myself!

aeriel is beautiful
but on the subject of zappa
i was lstening to:

mulatu astatke - mulatu of ethiopia - worthy usa 1972 - just reissued

zappa must have been listening to this guy
some of the tunes have that almost reggae groove
and the sax is playing frank's part note for note
you could literally swap the sax sound for a guitar
scary
and very good

Dave,

Side 3 being bad is common. I believe there was a problem with some residue on a batch. The advice was to play it a few times, it should clear or if you have access to a record cleaner then just clean it. Otherwise return it in disgust.

I refer you to the original posting on this thread!

My side three was very bad and did not clear. I got it exchanged no problem and the replacement is fine.

I guess I am lucky that I do not have a side 3 to go wrong; sure sounds good though!

When a CD is engineered like this there is no need for SACD.

having bought cd (liked music alot!) we can't buy vinyl in this area except in Oxfam and their prices border on the ridiculous. Is the vinyl version so much better than the cd version that it would be worth ordering?

Hi David

Mail order for vinyl seems to work OK. There are many suppliers including Amazon.

Any properly (physically) produced vinyl is going to be better than a CD from the same recording, since the vinyl resolution is intrinsically superior!

One or two people have had an issue with a flawed Side 3, but it does not seem to be a rule.

I have compared vinyl to CD as I have both and I go to the vinyl copy for 'proper' listening.

I bought from Amazon and every side of the double LP was **** beit scratches or mistracking on the 4th side. I didn't have the noisey side three. James bought vinyl from Amazon at the same time and had no problem.

At least I played it which meant I went for a refund rather than a replacement. What a load of ****. No wonder after the launch there has been nothing extolling the virtues of this album. It's got nothing on Kate Bush in her best years. Yes, it's new, alternative and (despite my own recorded problems) well recorded, but the material is ****, ****, ****. I'm surprised so many here like it. Is it the actual music or is it just that for once you've got a recording that does something dynamic in your system?

Personally I think Aerial is a pile of pants

Best wishes,

Greg

Thank you Greg for saying the unsayable!

Slooshy Sloshy indeed...

Perhaps it's like opera, better when it's sung in a foreign language, so you're not distracted by the awful lyrics, but even then there's still Rolf Harris. What happened to the girl who created Hounds of Love?
