Same for me at the moment.

Greg is "evangelic" when it comes to what he sees as the right gear to have.

I've not a problem with what anyone likes, and it's good to hear peoples opinions, but I don't want it rammed down my throat.

Interestingly, my SB Touch , which I've had for many years, came from Greg, and it looked unused.

Yes, Philip, it was completely unused. You were the first to activate it.

I have no interest in ramming anything down people’s throats. I do however think it is a massive shame if home music listeners fail to avail themselves of the best way to do that, which includes simply streaming ripped CD’s especially when it is so inexpensive to achieve. You could have a completely up to date high performance RPi based streamer/player for under £100.

Anyway, I think I’ve made my point and I will bow out now. Anyone who might want to explore further what I have suggested is welcome to PM me to extend the discussion.

A new one, lucky Philip! I bought a Boombox off eBay and couldn’t use it as it was still registered to the seller. He was a good seller though and after a quick email he deleted it from his SB account. Not sure but I think that was only an issue with older SB devices.

For the OP- if you are finding a large gap in SQ between streaming and your vinyl, I’d agree with Greg on checking out more up to date kit.

Whilst I’d agree that vinyl at its very very best will edge streaming, it’s not cheap to achieve, and imo a decent modern streamer whether it’s a Pi or something else, running say Tidal or Qobuz through Roon can sound fantastic.

A well set up streaming front end should be equally as good as a vinyl front end 99% of the time imo.

I use a Lumin D2, not the cheapest admittedly, but it does sound excellent. Very easy to set up too- I had it playing music within 10 minutes of getting it out of the box.

Lots of very good dacs coming along now for not a lot, check out the likes of the Topping D90.

There are also boxes from the likes of Marantz and Cambridge Audio with built in screens, which will negate the need to use a smartphone. Or, you could do what I did and buy a secondhand tablet from eBay to use with the streamer of your choice.

That was my thought, particularly as the OP mentioned a desire to improve his streaming set up..
