svet winged c if you don't already have them, incredible prices direct from eastern europe offa ebay,I think yours may be edicron, stock valve, which I don't like any of their own brands from what I have tried at all, and I have a suspicion that the edicrons may be svets for the rectifiers tho'....

While it's still up and running, have a search on the WAD BB - there's masses is info on the subject there.

I started trawaling through the threads on the old BB last night, I got a coulple of ideas, but theres so much to read! Several people mention the Watford Valves Harma Diamond 5u4G's and others Electro Harmonix 5U4GB's. So many threads go off topic aswell, which makes searching fairly difficult! Still it's a great resource, pity it's future is in doubt! I wonder if its content was ever copied / saved. I've cut and pasted a few articles for my own information.

I hoping to have a look round at the Tonbridge audio jumble for valves this Sunday coming - anyone else going?

Mike.

I found that NOS 5AR4's were very good, NOS 5U4's seemed to be working a bit to hard for my liking.

Very pleased with my EH 5u4GBs. Look worse .... sound better!

If I were you I'd search e bay etc. to see what is around at a reasonable price from the recommendations and start there. If you don't like them, you can always try others and put yours on the for sale board or keep them for a rainy day!

Hi all,

Just a quick follow up - I made it to the Audio Jumble at Tonbridge last Sunday, and actually managed to find some valves. A single Mullard E88CC with gold pins for my PreII, and a pair of Mullard ECF80's for my Kat6550 (which also has re-issued Russian Tung-Sol 6550's fitted) Overall the sound has certainly improved - much more detail, the amps have been in use almost every evening this last week! Now just the 5U4G's to sort!

Thanks to all those who offered advice!

Mike.
