Yes, still using the JJs. I had kind of forgotten about them if that makes sense.

I think a problem with looking online is that you are scanning the whole world. The chances of NOT finding someone who has had a problem with a given brand of valves is small.
Valves are simply (compared to transistors) unreliable. If you run valve gear you WILL get the occasional failure and perhaps some people are too quick to jump online and declare that brand X are **** because one of their O/P valves failed after 6 months. Obviously, if you see exclusively bad reports of a particular brand.........

Better if possible, to go by personal recommendation or a friendly forum with peoples opinions that you trust.

Yes, completely agree.
Looking at some new valves to buy over the Christmas break. JJ's obviously pop up all over the place, so may put them on my 'to consider' shopping list!
