Looking about at various arms I found this...

http://www.audiodynamics.co.uk

Has anybody used this arm on a DIY project? Any good?

A real blast from the past. Not heard one in years.

Anyone still got one?

They got replaced by tic tocs and alphasuns and syrinxes and all sorts of SMEs as far as I can recall. All claimed to be improvements.

The trouble is........

..I can't remember being impressed by ADC ART 1s, although they were one of the few arms that could cope with the low tracking weights and low friction requirements of cartridges like the adc ZLM.

I expect it all depends what cartridge you are going to put in it. It doesn't look DL 103 capable to me!

I've just bought a 2nd/3rd/whatever hand Decca London International tonearm to play with on my Lenco. It was cheap (£17.01 ), it's a unipivot and it fits straight onto an L75.

I'm not expecting the earth from it, I know its old but wondered if anyone else here has had any luck with them, any tips etc.

Like I say this was an impulse buy, I know its not the be-all and end-all-of tonearms but at least I'll be able to play with a Lenco over winter and compare the original Lenco arms to an old U/P.

Is this the start of the 'slippery slope' you all warned me about? LOL.

Never liked them meself. Could only just cope with a high compliance cartridge - give it anything more meaty and it sounded dull and coloured. Something to do with the mechanical structure of the arm I suspect. Certainly not right, in effective mass terms, for moving coils.

Thanks Peter, I was beginning to think no-one else had heard of them! I know a lot of forum members are unipivot makers/users, hence my purchase of a bargain basement Decca London.

I'll be using some MM Cartridges untill I've made up the WD88VA, CLD Plinth Lenco and Lite Audio Phono stage. I can't stretch to any MC cartridges. I 'inherited' a bunch of Shure M75 ED's and SC35B's when our GLC workshop got closed down in 1990, I'm still using them at the moment I've got about 6 repalcement Styli for each along with a handful of G800e's too.

Can you tell me the difference between Hi and Lo compliance cartridges? I haven't come across that before

Hope Arena got my order for the MJ Valve Amp book OK last night too
