The red cable was 'just a do', to the last mm, but it ruined my vision of super neat cable layouts
Don't worry! A rats nest is better than a super neat layout. If you must keep things neat work to a grid pattern avoiding parallel runs of cable. This way crosstalk will be minimised but you may have to keep an ear out for hum...

which was why I laid it out the way I did. With careful layout you can avoid most of the 'rats nest' syndrome and avoid any noise or hum. I'm very pleased that you can turn up the WD88VA to full volume, (with a shorted input of course) and have to put your ear close to the speaker to hear anything at all. Just follow the recommended layout, and see the pics for relative neatness.

It was trying to lay it out the way it was shown that I was trying to achieve & have achieved mostly. The shortage of cables caused just a couple of short cuts and a few not so neat bends so I am not complaining it was more for feed back that I mentioned it. (& I have run out of 0.5 red - forgot about the other channel, but some more is winging its way over at this moment I believe)

By the way the wiring diagram fig.9 shows the line from A1 going to U4 anode & the UL1 grid line going to U3 grid - not right surely also the instructions mention pin 4 of UL1 in the section about wiring them up,

Could result in wiring it up in an interesting fashion.

Regards
J

Sorry about that, more cable is on its way. Also Fig 9 was amended just after you received yours - the written instructions are correct. Fig 9 attached here

You should have had 3 of them in the kit, R23 x 2 and R31.

Well! it works.

No Hum.

Voltage readings a tad on the high side except for the AC heater circuit, which was a tad low? But, no bangs and flashes. A bit worried when deciding whether or not the LED had gone yellow or green but the girlfriend assures me its yellow. Must be going colour blind.

Acoustic instruments sound good in initial trials. Base not to good but this is probably the small speakers its hooked up to at the mo. Hope to try out the bigger ones tonight.

Then all that remains is to fit the front panel & knobs and make a proper home for it.
