You may be interested in my latest post on the speaker-parts.eu blog...

BTW I'm not necessarily advocating the BBC approach, you'll see why in a later post, but the research is interesting.

what about composite laminates??

Chipboard & MDF
Chipboard & Hardboard
Many Hardboard Layers
Roofing Felt inbetween layers
Fabric over the top
Cavas dipped in PVA & water (it shrinks as it dries, similar effect to aircraft skins)
Rubber Sheeting

Wouldn't a laminate be better at controlling resonances?

Someone told me that you have pretty much tried every variable possible on your valve amps, and them some. You must be immortal!

Primalsea, What's that got to do with plywood versus particle board? Are you trying to be humourous? I think your last comment, apart from being off topic is a bit 'in for a dig.'

Andrew does have a point. You could spend years experimenting with various conglomorate board options. The thread is simply about what is best. If you have something constructive to add about the choices you've suggested, I'm sure many of us will be gratefully all ears.

Best wishes,

Greg

Greg,

If you want to take it upon yourself to police the forum can you please send PMs to anyone you feel has made a bad post.

Best to find out what they actually mean before suggesting that they are having digs at people as this can give a bad flavour to the forum.

Andrew,

I wasn't having a dig. I have heard that you are quite prolific in your amp building. The post was just in recognition to this.

Now can we get back on topic!!

I meant laminations of dissimilar materials such as plyboard & hardboard or something similar.

Hi Paul-had you have put a "smiley" or "grin" after your comment then we all would have known it was in jest !

It certainly looked snipish to me.

Greg is entitled to his views as much as you are (and me )

You do seem to have some unusual ideas at times, perhaps it would be good to put some of them into practice and report on their effectiveness ?:p

Hi-and back on topic !

Having read Peters articles and his recommendations of using particle board/MDF that is the way i would go if building any more speakers.
