I think I may have found one but don't know how reliable the results are. It tells me I have download speed of 53.75Mb/s and upload of 2.02Mb/s. Virgin Media is the source. That is on my wired modem to PC using XP and IE8. I don't think XP will work with further developed IE9 or 10.

Hope that helps.

Greg

Thanks Colin.

The U Switch site seems not to be working at present. I did the BBC which I thought should be reliable because they have 'no axe to grind' and it produced Download speed of 31211kbps. Thereafter (I don't have a clue on this), Streaming speed 1, 10316kbps; speed 2, 18817kbps and speed 3, 18667kpbs, all of which means buggar all to me

I hope that helps.

Greg

Hi Greg, yes that looks very fast 30MBps, mine's capped at 20MBps and rarely a problem. What it won't tell you though is the route it takes to the WD server and that may be the problem.

Here's a good quick test site, wait for the green Begin Test to load,
http://www.speedtest.net/

Here's a nice video clip to test, Colin will like this

I'm not a computer expert, but is it not possible to "ping" between two IP addresses and find out where the "traffic jam" is occurring ?

I asked that too Philip but apparently it can take different routes depending on traffic and in even if a duff server is located it's out of the control of the isp.

Now this is interesting and Greg and anyone who's been suffering might like to try it to see if it gives us any clues;

Mine's been clunky on and off the last 2 weeks but I've noticed that if I come to WD from another bb it loads straight away. The other bbs aren't similar vbulletin so it may be unlikely they are pre loading missing code.

Give it a go, if you have say Audio Talk and WD in your favourites go there first then see if WD loads immediately after.

I have Audio Talk as my home page, so it's live at all times when the computer is on and I never log out.

I believe my ISP service comes from Birmingham, approximately 90 miles away. Richard, I don't understand how to use that Ookla speed tester. Do I need to set up an account? I don't get any 'green begin to test' item to load. Today, I had a minifest with a couple of mates who are members here and they also experience the same intermitent log in blocking problems although they have not reported on this thread. It seems the problem is affecting quite a few and the only common denominator is this website. I visit other vbulletin websites without any problem. Having said that, I've not been active on the furum until this evening and tonight have had no problem. Let's hope Matthew is right and things are now better.

Hi Greg,

Mine's been blocking earlier this morning (despite coming to it from another bb site so that doesn't seem to help after all) but is clear again now so something's going on. Matthew's been on to them so give it a few more days.

Speedtest,
http://www.speedtest.net/
No nothing more to do, no need to log in etc, click the link and wait! and wait! The green "Begin Test" button will appear. Click it and sit back that's all there is to do.
Call me cynical but I think the delayed loading is to catch folk who idly click around and end up loading one of the links on that page.
