So, after running two PSU's for almost two weeks I have come to the conclusion that this is the best sound for me, the Hammond choke has been fitted and removed many times, but I still think that the sound is nicer when two power supply's are used, with WD chokes, so to this end I am contacting Matthew to see if he can help. BOB Matthew, you have a PM.

Second PSU III put together today, I now have two identical PSU's, one driving the pre the other driving the phono, this really has moved the sound to another level. Thank's to Matthew for his help. BOB

Good result, Bob.

On the original choke upgrade, I know of another who has done it with a very positive outcome, although to date, he has been too lazy to make a post about it . Come on mate.......say something!

Ok, ok, just been too busy listening to my system,

I can add to what others have posted on this thread about the Hammond choke, it has improved the sound from my system by quite a large margin, very pleased indeed, better sound stage, tighter and better defined bass and much more dynamic with cd and with vinyl, also improved the sound from fm radio imho.

Well worth the £20 and I will be doing the same to my other psu3 at some point.

Hi All
Well it is good to hear you all like the Hammond Choke upgrade in your WD PSUs
Now The Question is are you all keeping it in your PSUs
So far it Seems just BOB was not in agreement and went for the two psu options instead a good move too BOB

Well I'm certainly keeping the Hammond in my PSU3, Phono 3, Pre 3 set up, but I've also still got a PSUII, PhonoII PreII set in a cupboard, and I'm beginning to wonder about making use of the PSUII somehow - it seems like separate PSU's may be the way to go. The PSUII could easily be used to power Phono 3. I'd probably make a hybrid power cable up with a Cliffcon connection at one end so that I can keep things fairly interchangeable. Or I guess I could use a PSUII/PhonoII and PSU3/Pre3 combination.

Then again, I'm pretty happy with the way things are at the moment, and I don't really have more room on the shelf, so I'll probably leave things as they are.

OK, all who have done the choke change to the Hammond, can I suggest that you now put the WAD / WD choke back in and report back, it only takes a few minutes, and it will be interesting to read the results, you may be very surprised. BOB

I remember (many years ago) that master of "expensive" upgrades, a certain Russ Andrews, writing about the performance of his wares.

What he was saying, in effect, was that if one of his "upgrades" failed to please it was because the "extra performance" was uncovering something else that had hitherto been masked.

Not suggesting that's true in Bobs case of course.
