Hi Colin,
Well cases yes I have been looking on Fleabay, some custom made ones look nice but expensive when shipping is added. Think there is a place in Italy that sells Hamond cases that look nice but again not cheap. May end up bying a cheap not working amp/tuner pre amp on the Fleabay and binning the internals. Just need new faceplate then, keep the metal work simple.
Transformers ordered so will have to give it some thought.
At the moment I am wrestling with the lay out of the pre2 CF. I am not good on transfering circuit diagams to real life. Upgraded PSU2 is finished for it tho.
Case for the PRE2 will be bought from Matthew tho.
Martin

Try your local secondhand shop.
They often have non repairable junk out the back, that they're happy to shift for beer tokens.

I can recommend the Modu range. From Italy but no hassle to order or get delivered.

A very wide range of quality boxes. My current DAC is in one.

Hi All,
Some good ideas was thinking of "cash de generator" everyones local pawn ripoff shop, but may have to go incognito in case I am seen leaving / entering..
Bluebell web site is goob may have solved the problems of my Pre2 CF I'll try tag strip may be easier to constuct the bits on. Finding that a real pain at the moment, and it's only got 15 odd bits.
The Italin site is the one I have been looking for. After finding it on another forum (cann't remember which one) I did not bookmark it. Now I have.
They do vented covers at reasonable prices for Rack enclosures I have 2 which I need covers for to mount 2 JLH 110wat mono amps in (from long ago when they were not Williams just Hart). At the mo they run on a bit of plastic (Colin). LOL

The tag boards I usually use are these.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1507820272...84.m1423.l2649

They are also available from RS and HFC (hi - fi Collective).

I purchased a sheet of PCB material (FR2 from memory) and a packet of turret tags to make some custom tag boards for when I revamp an old project.

Hi All
Well have been messing with the WM8741 Dac and foobar using computer optical outputs to dac over the New Year and find foobar to be flat closed in and shouts at you and has over enhanced treble as well with usd

Using computer to dac with the optical out it is marginally better but the difference is marginal

Irrespective of using WASAPI or ASIO with my sennhizer HD650 headphone bearing in mind i do not using any EQ settings as I just don’t like adding more EQ to a clean single

So for headphones foobar is not for me but this may depend on the rest of the setup you have the PC. M board Drivers sound card etc.
Which could well apply to me as I don’t have a dedicated sound card but the in build sound card is a High Definition Audio Device with optical out

After a Google for media players I came across J. Rivers media centre
It looks like window media and its library format works in the same sort of way which I like so from the start it ticks the right box but down side it’s not free
Now no EQ setting and using WASAPI or ASIO plus the ASIO Teralink X2 USB Driver i have for the WM8741 Dac the sound is more dynamic and flowing but still has that shout at you approach

Now as I said I don’t like adding EQ but having nothing to lose I started to playing around with the DSP effect setting like environment and spatialization settings and adding a 15” sub bass but this will depend on your headphone so experiment with the three setting to taste

Well now then this is the dogs bits sound is smooth well balanced deep and real sounding and stereo imaging is out of the head and wide
Plus it plays any format plus rips and
Burns you DVD audio disks
And much more
Anyway here’s the link anyone using headphone should try this they do give you a fully functioning media player for 30 days with no payment involved unless you want to buy so you don’t have to reminder to cancel any payment you have nothing to lose http://jriver.com/audio.html

Well done for getting the sound to your liking.

But, I would just say that I find Foobar an excellent way to enjoy music at my computer via my DIY computer monitor speakers, as do many others. My main setup uses a Squeezebox Touch and AK4393 DAC.
