Hmmm, I'm very sceptical that you will make any significant sales for a incomplete kit at £1600. Certainly it is well out of my price bracket and I suspect many others. When you consider what is available coming in from China, albeit such kit might need some work to make safe, £1600 I suggest remains well beyond the affordable level for the majority of us.

Errr yes, I agree with davebms.
What is incomplete about it? As far as I can see the only thing that may be "incomplete" about it is black tx covers as opposed to chrome ones.
As for cost we all know that we cannot compete with the Chinese, but not all of us want a Chinese product.
I also think, Greg, that there are times when you really don't understand the price of getting things made in this country. Quantities of scale in China are so because they sell to many, many different purchasers basically the same product with a little bit of poncing about to make it look different. You only have to look on eBay to see what I mean. A little less negativity would help, I feel, just because you cannot afford it does not mean others cannot.

It's exciting to see this coming together now! There are very few powerful valve amps which sound good and producing a pair of 50W amps with this spec and quality of components is quite a challenge. It's real world power for a lot of folk which, of course, was the reason for the project

John mentioned the Wireless World article which is here in Doug Self's Wireless World Archive, http://www.douglas-self.com/ampins/w...archive.htm#88

I put the pages into a pdf which may be a bit more convenient, 88-50.PDF and the circuit only, 88-50circ.PDF it's certainly a good read

Hi Richard,
Thanks for both the link, and your PDF. As you say it gives an insight into why and how they did things, very much a la Mullard Green Book.
It's interesting to note that GEC/Osram also did an EL84/N709/6BQ5 push pull amplifier/preamplifier once again a la Mullard 510.
The GEC version never seemed to catch on as much as the Mullard one possibly because the 3 main valve suppliers were Mullard, Brimar and Mazda.

Interesting opinion.

I'm pleased for Stuart that he has a system that pleases him so much.

However, the old WAD amps that Stuart had (or still has ?) are hardly worthy of comparison compared with what can be made by the adventurous home constructor these days for not a fortune.

Hi all,
Just a quick reminder to all who expressed an interest in Johns 50 watt ,
Is there any movement on this as I am interested too? Is there any any thoughts on this at all? the rough price quoted by Mathew seems realistic enough to me
