Earlier I was enjoying:

Borodin
Prince Igor Overture and
Mussorgsky
Night on a bare Mountain

Performed by the London Phil Orch on Classics for Pleasure LP. Charity shop special.
Good recordings with invigorating lively performances capturing the ambience of the hall/venue and the enthusiasm of the performers.

CFP 40309

Sometimes the budget label recordings are worth checking out, not just decca, DG etc.

Sorry Andrew, sometimes you're right. There can be an element of "I'm listening to something you've never heard of, how cool am I?". On the other hand, I now know that Dave The Bass has similar tastes to me, but listens to loads of stuff I've never heard of, so it could be a source of new inspiration for me.

Swings and roundabouts.

Cheers...and vice versa, thats why I like this thread. I've not got any classical knowledge and don't know whats good or bad in that field but if someone/lots of folk were to rave about 'Bumboski's Bflat Concerto for U bends' I'd investigate, it's not about being 'cool' to me I've never been cool, you ask my embarased teenage kids )

yawnsville,

Even the people on this BB I know and like, unless you have something to say critically or of interesting note about some wibblywarblertrack rather than bleating on about actually putting it on your platter and giving it a run for its often undeserved money; a spin on your platter from hell, I am not going to rush out and buy just because you happen to be wasting your listless dull life away listening to some awful perhaps obscure rubbish. (yeah okay that is harsh, too harsh - appollylogies)

Tell me why the 'raving scarlet pimple boys' latest LP is great and I might prick up my ears. Then there is merit on suggesting that I and others should pick up this piece of heaven spun turpiscorian muse. Otherwise it is an ego thing by being obscure or a rather lame claim for comradeship, somewhere...anyone .. out there in the cruel world of paypal nasties and parking tickets, over some probable nasty piece of music that no one else likes or has ever heard of. Both Nazis and greenpartypeeps may well like e.g. crazy diamond - what does that mean?

Rant, rant, rant, but what is the point of this thread?.

IMHumbrolO it is iritatating and very dull indeed.

Is there a way of blocking a thread out, like my pop up blocker desn't?

Errrrrrr......what?

this evening i've been mostly listening to:

ROOT 70 - heaps dub on nonplace

available here:

http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=22007

i know i've recommended it before
but it is very very good
and the best release on this label so far
unusual for a straight jazz outfit
to play music by dub/electronics composer
but there you go.....

been comparing phono stages
these guys just enjoy playing together
it is funky and intelligent
and very well recorded
so why don't you try it?

dave
