Its another acoustic all-star jazz line up headed by Ernest Ranglin, better known as that 'bloke wot wrote My boy Lollipop' , its in the same vein as Root 70 but with light Ska-based feel. Lovely recording again (IMHO) too. i've raved about it in the past and the chaps at the Heathrow Show seemed to enjoy it too.

Listened to Bruce Springstein accompanied by a 13 piece band comprising members of the LSO. last night on BBC4. Not really into Springstein, but, his source music was early 1930's etc Jazzy red neck folk type music.....

Excellent instrumental playing,
Excellent vocals and harmonising
Excellent solo spots
Excellent venue (St Lukes Church in London).

Generally this Genre is not my thing, but Springstein and the LSO blew me away..........

Springstein has moved up several notches in my estimate.......

Gone to see if I can find it on DVD or CD now........

Don't think a live album has been released (yet?), but I have the "We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions" album from which the session comes, and it's very good. It has a "live" sound and captures much of the energy of a live Bruce performance. Best of all, my copy is on wonderfully thick double vinyl, which I got through Amazon's Marketplace for £8.99 delivered. Sounds really good, and cheaper than CD!

'sssinteresting about Bruce Springsteen, Adrian, because I felt disinclined to listen to his music until I was dragged kicking and screaming to a B.S & the east st band gig and was very very impressed. He is a consummate professional and great performer. I went back to listen to his music. Now I have a few pieces of vinyl but Simon's sounds like a bargain!

Funny too, I thought similarly i.e. not much, about Prince and then saw a couple of performances but only on the telly. Again, a great professional, creative and flamboyant performer - marvellous!

Again then, it is not what you are listening to, but why you think it is worth a good playing, that I am most interested to hear about.

I am in the doldrums at present listening too much to sound colourations and distortion of tortured, abused valves rather than the music streaming through them; gives me a headache quite unlike WithamWarbler's effect on tired grey matter.

Where was this recorded? Was it a studio, or a venue with a nice acoustic?

Andrew, I sympathize with your quandry......However, the program was on BBC4 so if you get free-view or cable, it's bound to be repeated sooner rather than later.......
As to the abuse of valves, are you thrashing some GM70's/other types, on the sly.........

GM70s are not so much being abused as cowering in anticipation and disbelief of what I intend to do next to them.

No, I've been picking on the little ones; 6DN7 & 6DN7. 6S45s are resting and weeping quietly to themselves in the garage but el34s have been seriously bashed simply because they were so cheap and I pretended not to notice them.

I have decided to drill out a chassis that can take any type of innocent and pure DHTs. This has been done before, I know, but maths not being my strongpoint there is no protection form the Geneva Convention of Ohm's Law.

The sleeve notes say the album was recorded at "Thrill Hill, Boxwood Studios, NJ". But compared to the rest of his studio albums which sound very polished, this has that raw edge that suggests a group of musicians jammed together. It would be interesting to know how many takes they did as it sounds quite spontaneous to me, but I'm no musician. Perhaps the dynamics of the recording helps this "live" feeling?

Erasure Chorus on vinyl,
I know this album very very well from CD.
This is the first time I have listened to it on record, just got hold of it
WOW just lots more info double tracked vocals I didnt know were there!
This album is completely recorded in the Analogue domain.
Vince only used old Analogue synths and scoped the wave forms.
Those Lush organic synth sounds with the angelic voice of Andy Bell make this album a must.
just try it for a few quid.
