Now, I have got four pairs left. I used to have 8 pairs DIY.

1. Good old PRO9 TLs in the living room,

2. KEF Q55.2 DIY - for the TV,

3. Tabor II (Dalesford D50 +Seas H117) in the bedroom,

4. Sony SS-NX1 (with Monacor HT 22/8 cone tweters) for the PC - in the study.

Ah, Pro9s and Tabors Wieslaw, lovely, I had Pro9s too and my brother (in the next bedroom back home in the late 70's!) built Tabors using his old Wharfedale cabs.

I have - sort of - commercial equivalents these days. Tannoy XT8F in the main room and Kef Corelli in the smaller room. Also a nice pair of restored JR149 not doing anything at the moment. The JRs are real hifi for a smaller room or flat as they really do sound involving and "hifi" without having to be played loud, I must give them an airing again

Mmm, two and a half for me.

Tannoy Cheviots in my main system, a pair of Wilmslow Audio designed "mini monitors" in my second system and a single speaker in the kitchen. A few years back I got a radio for the kitchen but quickly got frustrated with its weedy sound so connected it through a Maplin kit amp (about 30 years old from the back of the garage) and built a small sealed box with a couple of drive units I had lying around. I have the other pair of drivers to make a second matching speaker but have never got around to building it.

Up until a year or so back I had my late father's JR149s sitting in a cupboard but sold them as it seemed a shame for them to be sitting around doing nothing.

Phil.

Hello Richard.

I can remember exchanging emails with you and Jonathan regarding speaker stuff and issues a long time ago.

Now, I still use the PRO9's which are almost 44 years old now. They've got Morel CAT328 tweeters and Russian teflon caps in the treble section of the crossover.

Regarding the Tabor. Badger Sound Systems had failed to send me an original kit, and in 1982, after nearly two years of me waiting, Mr Hughes did send the Dalesford D50/Seas H107 kit to em saying that was Tabor II improved version. Since then I've had to replace both the woofers and tweeters, and replace all the caps, too.

Happy days Wieslaw! I actually am lucky enough to have 3 brothers. Jonny had my first Pro9s from me and I later built another pair. He then built ProAc clones.

Tony built the Tabors and we both used the rectangular Audax tweeter iirc, his with bextrene bass/mid, Dalesford perhaps, or Audax or Kef but I cannot remember and there seems little about them on the web. Nothing either on Falcon despite their address being Tabor House at one time I think! Yes my Pro9 booklet was Badger sound.

I remember driving up to Lytham St Annes in December 1978 with my university friend Terry Myers to Badger Sound Services. He bought the Pro 9 TL and I got the Tabor (£64 for the full kit of parts).
I built them in my Christmas holidays and from then on they were my only pair of speakers for nearly 40 years (I retired them in 2017, replaced by some KLS3's). The cabinets went to the tip but the drive units are up in the loft and I may one day build some new cabinets made for them.
I still have all the original build instructions and magazine articles and attach some pics that may be of interest.
Lovely speakers and the start of my DIY Hi-Fi passion.

Many thanks Lyndon, good to see those articles again! I went to the 77 Heathrow show, exciting times for audio back then

Agreed. I still have my Rotel RA412 amplifier and Pioneer PL12D up in the loft. Pretty lo-fi but I loved them.
